How to be accepted as a volunteer:

Currently, we are only accepting applications for volunteers who are able to work during the daytime hours of Monday through Friday. 

As part of your training, all volunteers are asked to serve as patient and family escorts, one 3-4 hour shift a week for a period of eight weeks. There are several reasons for this, all explained at orientation. After that time you may request the area within the hospital that you would like to volunteer. 
As part of your role as an escort you’ll be able to interact with children and families while you walk with them to their appointments. This is a great opportunity to learn about what makes our hospital and staff so special, and other areas of interest for future volunteering                                                            what would do if you filled that position?

Volunteer opportunities fall into two main categories:

Opportunities with patients include assisting in: ·         Select patient care units ·         Outpatient services ·         Child Life Playrooms  (including Emergency Department) ·         Play Carts

Volunteers with little or no patient contact help in our: ·         Business offices ·         Gift Shop ·         Volunteer Resources office ·         Outpatient clinics ·         Guest Services escorts

How can you apply for this volunteer position?

Volunteering at our hospital requires a significant commitment from our staff to provide free training, testing, and processing.  As a result, we require a significant commitment from our volunteers. Find out more about the process of becoming a volunteer in our   section of the site. 

In addition, there are hosted by other nonprofit agencies who deliver services at our hospital to our patients. To become involved with these programs, please contact them directly.

Something that also out there that can help you is:

Working with children is one thing but one must have the patients to when one need’s to stay a bit longer and they feed you like a baby so disregard this part

Duties and responsibilities:

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist. The name's etymological origin is the greek word onkos (όγκος), meaning "tumor", "volume" or "mass".^[1]

Oncology is concerned with:

·         The  of any cancer in a person (pathology)

·         Therapy (e.g.  and other modalities)

·         Follow-up of  after successful treatment

·          of patients with terminal malignancies

·          questions surrounding cancer care

·          efforts:

·         of populations, or

·         of the relatives of patients (in types of cancer that are thought to have a hereditary basis, such breast cancer

Education: Completion of a bachelor's degree program, particularly one that includes coursework in the biological and chemical sciences, is the first step in becoming an oncologist. Admission to an accredited school is next, a competitive and selective process that typically requires a passing score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
